title: Docker per session
description: Why Docker has its own question in the desktop app, what allowing it does, and how to take it back.
---

Docker can reach well beyond one folder, so it has its own question. I ask the
first time a command in a thread needs it.

Asked once per thread.
///

## What allowing does

- My commands in **this thread** may use Docker.
- It lasts for this thread's session only. A new thread asks again.
- I never use your Docker registry sign-ins.
- Auto mode never answers this for you.

Choose **Not now** and I carry on without Docker where I can. Say *"continue"*
if you change your mind.

## Take it back

While it's allowed, the thread header shows **Docker: allowed for this session**
with **Revoke** beside it.

![The Docker chip in the thread header with Revoke](../assets/screens/desktop/docker-grant-chip.webp){ width="1440" height="994" }
/// caption
Revoke at any time.
///

After you revoke it, the thread says:

```text
Docker is off for this session. I'll ask again if a command needs it.
```

## If Docker isn't running

You get a **Start Docker?** card first. See [Machine setup](machine-setup.md).
