title: Ysra help
description: Get free help with using Ysra beside any page — what help knows about your account, its daily limit, and how to reach the Ysra team.
new_in: "3.0"
---

**Ysra help** answers questions about using Ysra itself: what you can do
here, how to set something up, and why something isn’t working for you. Use
it instead of Ask when the question is about Ysra rather than your work: it
is free and works even when credits are out. It answers from these docs,
links the page it used, and starts from what your account has. This page
covers where to open it, what it knows, its limit, and getting help from the
team.

## What help knows

Help is free and knows facts about your account, never their content. It only
answers questions about using Ysra; research, writing and code belong in
[Ask](index.md) or [Code](../developer/index.md).

## Where to open it { #open-it }

| App | Where | What opens |
|---|---|---|
| Web | **Help** at the foot of the rail, then **Ask Ysra** | The **Ysra help** panel on the right, beside the page you are on. On a phone-sized screen it takes the whole screen. It stays open or closed as you left it. |
| Desktop | **Help** in the rail, or ++cmd+slash++ on a Mac, ++ctrl+slash++ on Windows | The same panel on the right, from every screen. |
| Phone | **Settings → Help** (“Questions about using Ysra. Free, no credits used.”) | The **Help** page: type in **Ask about using Ysra…**; “Ysra is looking…” while it answers; earlier questions under **Earlier**. |

The panel says: “Ask anything about using Ysra. Answers come from the docs and
what your account has set up, with the page they came from.” It offers three
questions to start from — “What can I do here?”, “Why isn’t my work
running?”, “How do I work on a folder on my computer?” — or type your own in
**Ask about using Ysra**. **New conversation** starts again; **Close help**
closes the panel.

Help conversations aren’t listed with your other Ask conversations, but the
command palette (++cmd+k++ / ++ctrl+k++) still finds them.

The same **Help** menu has **Start here: examples to run** (see
[Start here: examples](../getting-started/examples.md)), **Read the docs**, the
docs page for where you are, **What’s new** and **Get the apps**. In the
command palette, **Help and documentation** opens these docs.

<!-- media: knowledge-help-panel | The Ysra help panel answering “Why can’t I pick a repository?” beside the page | Web app with GitHub not connected → Help → Ask Ysra → ask “Why can’t I pick a repository?” → answer names GitHub and links the page → Get help from the team -->

## When the app offers “Ask Ysra about this” { #ask-ysra-about-this }

Where the app can tell you are stuck, it offers **Ask Ysra about this**. It
opens the panel with a plain question already in the box, which you send
yourself.

| Where | The question |
|---|---|
| Starting a thread with no repository or folder to work on | “I don’t have a repository or a folder to work on yet. How do I get started?” |
| Setting up a Worker that can’t be activated | “I’m setting up a Worker and it says: … What do I do?”, with what the page said |
| When your credits have run out | “I’m out of credits. What can I do?” |

The account-paused notice offers it too.

## What it knows about you

Ysra sees facts about your account, never their content:

- your organisation, your role, what your role may not do and who can do it;
- how many credits are left;
- which tools are connected, which need reconnecting, and which are missing;
- your repositories, devices and Workers, and what is waiting on you;
- which apps you are signed in on.

So when something is blocking you, it says that first, with where to fix it or
who can.

| You ask | It answers |
|---|---|
| “Why can’t I pick a repository?” | GitHub isn’t connected, and where to connect it. |
| “What should I do first here?” | The threads waiting for your answer. |

The same knowledge is used in Ask: see
[Questions about Ysra itself](index.md#questions-about-ysra-itself).

## Limits and cost { #free-within-a-daily-limit }

| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Cost | Free: it doesn’t use credits |
| Questions | 20 a day |
| When credits are out or the account is paused | It still works, so you can find out what to do next |
| Sending a conversation to the team | Once an hour per conversation |

## What happens when …

### You reach 20 questions in a day

It says: “That’s a lot of help questions for one day. The docs are at
https://docs.ysra.ai, or send this conversation to the Ysra team with Get
help.”, with **Read the docs** and **Send this to the Ysra team**.

### You ask it for something that isn’t about Ysra { #only-about-using-ysra }

Help doesn’t research, write, code or read your files. It says this
conversation is for help with Ysra, and that a normal Ask conversation does
it. See [Ask](index.md).

### It can’t answer { #get-help-from-the-team }

It says it couldn’t find it. Send the conversation to the Ysra team with
**Get help from the team** at the foot of the **Ysra help** panel, or **Get
help** at the top of any Ask conversation:

<div class="steps" markdown>

### Add a note if you like

**Anything to add? (optional)**: what you were trying to do, or what you
expected to happen.

### Send

Choose **Send to the team**. The team gets the conversation and what your
account has connected, so you don’t have to explain it again. They reply by
email.

</div>

If it can’t be sent: “It could not be sent just now. Write to support@ysra.ai
and include your question.”

### The desktop app itself misbehaves

**Help → Send a report…** in its menu bar sends what you write with the end of
the app’s log. See [Send a report](../desktop/troubleshooting.md#send-a-report).
