Talk to Ysra instead of typing: start a voice call in a thread, what it costs, how long it lasts, dictation, and what to do when voice won't start.

On this page

Voice lets you talk to Ysra out loud instead of typing. A voice call belongs to a thread: your words go into it exactly as you said them, and Ysra answers out loud, as itself, in the language you speak. Use it when your hands are busy or speaking is faster; this page covers what a call costs, how long it lasts, and what to do when it won't start. Dictation — turning speech into text in the message box — is covered at the end.

The rule#

A voice call is the same thread, spoken. Nothing new happens because you talked instead of typed: a change still needs the thread's OK, paid work still shows its plan, and everything said is in the thread afterwards.

Where you can talk#

From What starts
The voice button in an open thread's message box A call in that thread
The voice button in Code's start box A new Code thread, made by your first spoken request
The voice button in Ask's start box A new conversation, made by your first spoken question

In the web app a call carries on while you move between screens.

What a call costs#

Value
Shown before a call About 12 credits a minute (about 4 with the economy voice)
Charged What the call actually used
Needed to start 2 minutes' worth of credits
Ends when credits run low Under 1 credit left

How long a call lasts#

Limit Value
Longest call 15 minutes
Silence before it ends 60 seconds

Voice minutes a month#

Plan Minutes
No plan 10
Starter 60
Pro 300
Max 1,000
Team 120

Typing never uses voice minutes. Minutes come back each month on the date shown.

Dictation#

Dictation turns what you say into text in the message box, for you to read and send. It doesn't start a call.

Limit Value
One clip 2 minutes
A day 60 minutes
Cost Under 1 credit a minute

When voice won't start#

What you see Why What to do
“Voice needs about N credits to start …” Less than 2 minutes' worth of credits. Add credits, or keep typing.
“You've used this month's N voice minutes.” The plan's monthly minutes are used. Keep typing; the minutes come back on the date shown.
The call ends by itself 60 seconds of silence, 15 minutes reached, or credits ran low. Start a new call; the thread keeps everything said.
